Moving Objects Need Tough Love (Miranda's Plotter)
« on: January 01, 2020, 02:27:18 AM »

Miranda "Tough-Love" Carlstedt-Gaus
14th February 793 (52 in 845) | INSTRUCTOR OF BALLISTICS AND FIREARMS | Based in Wall Rose | Trost Native
Empathetic | Realistic | Mischievous | Workaholic | "Work hard, play hard."

FRIENDS

Miranda makes friends easily and genuinely, even if part of her is near-paralysed with fear at the prospect of anyone getting truly close, only to lose them. She admires anyone who shares her values of hard work and altruism, and has fully committed to being a teacher in all senses of the word -- anyone who believes in other people as optimistically as she does will easily earn her friendship. The real test will be getting her to actually hang out outside of the office, or not be preoccupied with her grandson -- most of her friends will likely be coworkers or those she sees regularly in the course of her duties, as her free time is limited.

ROMANCE

As with friends, Miranda has a full and open heart but tries very hard to keep people just outside the innermost circle, as losing someone else would devastate her beyond repair. She is a widow and misses her husband, Bradlen, dearly but is open to romance -- it may begin as friendship. She is however crippled by grief over her husband and daughter, which has led her to become quite the workaholic and as such, would likely need more time than others to draw her attention and keep it. She is the primary (though not only) caregiver of her eight-year-old grandson, Rolf, and will always put his needs above her own. As an aside, she is considered rather pretty and her wit and mischief are her calling cards.

ENEMIES

It's hard not to respect if not admire and love Miranda, but she's unafraid to make enemies and you'll likely get a spot on her bad list if you deliberately waste your potential or sabotage others; she'll likely only get confrontational with those that threaten 'her' cadets in any way. She is also sensitive to the (barely-known) fact that her daughter conceived Rolf out of wedlock and did not reveal the name of the father, therefore if Ruth is insulted Miranda will likely lose her cool. Additionally, she wants to believe that she can both raise Rolf and work full-time -- anyone who questions this will be preying on a deep-rooted insecurity that may receive mixed results.

POTENTIAL PLOTS

- As Instructor of Ballistics and Firearms and the fact that she really shines as a teacher with your best interests at heart, cadet interactions are more than welcome! Anyone in need of guidance, really -- even if they resist!
- Her talents lie in mathematics, physical chemistry, and physics. She's a quick-thinker. Any situation where this could be of use is an easy way in, cadet or fellow Instructor/soldier regardless.
- She's going to need help raising Rolf when she can't be at home!
- Are there any Trost neighbors out there that either support or condemn her wanting to turn a much-coveted vacant corner lot into an infirmary or orphanage? Is she taking too long to save up, when the space could be used now?
- Her mischief extends to good-natured ribbing and the occasional harmless prank. Any partners in crime or victims?
- Someone get her out of the office, seriously.
- She is physically weaker than most and would likely need help with strength-related tasks. « Last Edit: January 07, 2020, 04:42:48 AM by Miranda Carlstedt-Gaus »

Because Trost natives stick together, right? Depending on when they began living in Weaver Street, possibly Axel could have kept Rolf entertained a little before he enlisted, though mostly he was working at the bakery - so they could always stop by there too. He'd also help with any strength-related tasks (he might not be the physically strongest or biggest, but he's a determined sprog still decently strong for his size). We don't have to thread them in Trost if you don't want to, we could also have something of a reunion thread where she notices him in the 104th?

Miranda & Nack
Nack should probably learn how to use firearms well enough - given his MP aspirations and his eventual entry into the Garrison, if you're down for a teaching thread! He could also be a willing partner in crime for pranks ^^

With either pair-up, just let me know if you want to do a starter or if you'd like me to instead! <3

Axel & Miranda
That is such a PRECIOUS idea! I don't have anything definitive for when they began living there so things are nice and flexible! I'm sure Miranda would have been more than willing to spoil Rolf by stopping by the bakery regularly. I also like the idea of a reunion thread -- nice and warm and fuzzy since she so easily adopts cadets!

Nack & Miranda
Totally down for a teaching thread or a prank thread. With the former she would probably recognize the possibility of him ending up in the Garrison but still encourage his goals, giving him a broad knowledge base to fall back on in case he doesn't make it into the MP. For the latter, maybe she catches on that he's up to something but instead of shutting it down, gives advice on the best way to execute a prank?

Wanna split the starters? One for one XD

Miranda & Axel
Yesss. If we want to do something with the bakery, maybe pre-Fall? He's less tired on his feet, fighting to make sure he can feed everybody who looks hungry, and a little more innocent then. More chance for them to take a break and talk. It could only be a short thread, or we can skip it and go straight for the reunion, talk over some ideas on how they interacted in DMs? Whatever works!!

Miranda & Nack
uhfuehsa I love the idea of her encouraging him but also giving him the option because he's really... not a great cadet, and he's completely in idealistic world, lying to himself about how well he's doing. That kind of gentle direction and positivity... yes. We could potentially blend the two together, her offer him advice on the prank before he has a lesson with her anyway and it works out so he's just "*thumbsup* thanks, instructor!"

We could even do something fancy with a flashback (though yeah, more DMs needed to make sure it goes smooth) to combine the two. Either way she's going to recognize his potential and do what she can to nurture it.

Miranda & Nack
We've been talking about this in DMs so not much more to say other than HURRAH, I'm glad you like it! « Last Edit: January 07, 2020, 12:51:37 AM by Miranda Carlstedt-Gaus »

Late as always, but I can make an offer!

Arkin? He leads a cannon team and is also an above-average sharp-shooter. I think it stands to reason they would be in contact as she might be the one to recommend cadets for the cannon/rifle teams and/or Arkin might come to check out her class to observe students. I'm not mathing super well at the moment, but if she was in the Garrison - it's possible Arkin could have been under her for a time. Sorry if I'm messing up information lol!

You're not late at all! Miranda is a relatively new addition! <3

Arkin & Miranda
Aw yay, an excuse to interact with Arkin! I'm not mathing well tonight either so let's just remember to check but yes, I'd love for him to have studied under her for a time and I think it's realistic for her to keep in touch with as many of 'her' former cadets as possible, particularly those that are now on the cannon teams or in roles she herself once occupied. Also, I see in his profile that he's working on his leadership skills so perhaps, if they really gelled during training, he might also ask her advice when he comes to observe students / get a heads-up on those that he might end up receiving post-graduation? Incidentally he's around the same age that her daughter Ruth would have been had she lived -- maybe they graduated together (though she went into the Scouts)? Oh! And he and Miranda are both Trost natives!

No math or reading comprehension for me after 8PM gosh dangit!!  XD XD

I don't think there would be a full mentor/mentee relationship but Arkin would for sure appreciate a heads up for both cadets who show promise with ballistics and for cadets who are struggling. Arkin was a lousy academic (like...if there were 80 kids in his yeah he would have been 78th or so) and he has a heart for the kids like him. They go to the Garrison for the most part and Arkin would like to help them if possible!

I can't read my own bio! They are both from Trost. Miranda would be close-ish in age to Arkin's folks. They run a fairly well known Apothocary shop in Trost and are known for helping girls out when they are in trouble. That includes keeping the care of whatever is going on - on the down low if need be. They have like ten remedies for morning sickness. Arkin's mom functions as a midwife as well.

I think it's logical that her daughter would be in the same training group as Arkin (and therefore Rico, Anka, Ian, Gustav, and a few others lol). They could have been friends. And Arkin would have been very sad at her loss.  :'(

When Arkin had his accident (blew a good chunk of his left hand off) Gustav was a big part of him relearning skills. I imagine Miranda could have also stepped in. Or at least wanted to figure out what happened with the cannon.

High five for characters who like to shoot and blow stuff up!!!

Arkin & Miranda
(Just as a quick aside, speaking of her giving him a heads-up about kids that he could potentially be landed with -- I don't know where precisely Mercedes will end up in the Garrison when she graduates but Miranda would likely warn him that he might end up with a Carello of all people, notorious sharpshooters though they are. "You'll get a great shot, but they come with baggage!" Also I think I'm all right in saying that considering her grad rank of 17, her actively choosing the Garrison is perhaps a little unusual.)

OKAY OKAY but here's what I'm now really excited about, considering what you just mentioned: Miranda, in my fanon (I originally had her as Chief Instructor for the Western Division) she is notorious for taking care of her female cadets and for graduating a higher number of female cadets as a result -- helping girls out is a special offshoot of her MO of taking care of people in general. Maybe, as a workaholic, she also fills up some of her (limited) free time with helping out the Holts when/how she can? They'd also be maybe among the few that know her daughter conceived a son out of wedlock and kept the child, since Miranda would know they wouldn't be judgey. Did Arkin's mother deliver Rolf? Something to consider.

Oh yes, I can see Miranda hearing about Arkin's accident and making a special trip because again, she's just that person.

I'm so excited I don't know where to begin! <3 « Last Edit: January 07, 2020, 03:03:57 AM by Miranda Carlstedt-Gaus »

Arkin and Miranda

LOL. Arkin is like Helga Hufflepuff. He'll take them all and treat them with compassion and kindness. And challenges are not a bad thing. Though...he might find himself drinking more headache tea than typical lol.  <3 <3 <3

The Garrison needs more love lol! Come on Flower Power Team!! Rico ranked pretty high and picked the Garrison. So did Pixis lol!

It's a well-known secret what the Holt women do. There are a few remedies that a gal can take after she does something to try and make sure she does not get into trouble. I'd wager that Mama Holt would give Miranda a jar full of it with some simple instructions so she can hand it out herself. Save the young lady a trip for something that is fairly easy (Mix this powder with this tea 2x a day for five days. Something like that.)

If the girl was in trouble and wanted to get out of the trouble - Arkin would often stand guard while Mama and Granny worked. Now girls come to him and he personally escorts him to his parent's shop if need be and looks after them afterward. He's a good bean. My best bean really. I'm going to kill his entire squad by the way. Just wanted to get that out there.

I think it's possible Mama Hold delivered Rofl. She and Papa Holt would never give a girl a hard time. Arkin's older brother was an "early" baby after all.  ;) XP They'd help Miranda and her girl out for sure.

I could see Miranda being like, "Well...at least you still have your thumb."

Arkin & Miranda

Aw, they're kin, then! Adopting whoever they can! I think it's grand that the Holts have established themselves thus so go you! I really like the idea of Miranda keeping certain supplies around that can be helpful. Perhaps a delivery day is a start for a visit and thus a thread?

Another could be Miranda paying a visit to help out the Holts (with or without Rolf because that's also where her time goes) and reiterates her thanks for their help in delivering him and taking care of Ruth? Could potentially cue reminiscing about Ruth if Arkin's there.

And YES that is absolutely her type of dark but kindly-meant humor!

(You're...you're gonna WHAT! To be fair I chuckled because of course, we need angst. Good to know! Would Miranda know them, too? Of course if she does she's gonna be sad about it with him.)

I also have Mina Carolina. http://reluctant-heroes.com/index.php?topic=933.0

She is a slightly above average student who had a very comfortable upbringing to so world is hitting her pretty hard. I don't imagine that she is much of a shot but she does try really hard. Mina's goal is the SC.

A class thread with a bunch of cadets and Miranda could be a good time.

Miranda & Mina

Oh my gosh Miranda will love Mina! I mean, who wouldn't, but Miranda would so happily slide into view if she saw that Mina needed an extra boost with anything if she happened to be having an off day. Despite not really knowing her father, I headcanon that Miranda's life with her mother was also fairly comfortable and she had to go through a similarly steep adjustment -- detecting that hiccup should come easily to Miranda. And if Mina's goal is the SC, I'm sure that'll add a little extra anxiety for Miranda if she gets attached -- I haven't decided what Ruth looked like but wouldn't it be wonderfully awful if Mina looks a bit like Ruth? If so we could make things complicated and have Mina be one of the few Miranda tries to steer away from their goal, and Miranda has to be snapped out of it somehow? (Either by Mina standing up for herself, or from a third party.)

And yes, a class thread would be ambitious but AWESOME. I can see who else might be up for that! « Last Edit: January 07, 2020, 04:27:33 AM by Miranda Carlstedt-Gaus »
