Lionhearted • Santiago's Plotter
« on: February 18, 2020, 12:26:58 PM »

Santiago - Male - Former Scout - 32 (as of 845)

Reserved - Brotherly - Wise

‣ Friends
Santiago gives away the impression of a lone wolf, even more than others. He's quiet, speaking only in curt and straightforward sentences. Furthermore, he has quite the solitary working ethic, even on the battlefield. Because of these qualities, he's often portrayed as grumpy and intimidating by others.

Nevertheless, when one decides to approach him regardless of his permanent scowl, they'll be greeted warmly. Santiago is a friendly fellow. He often values the wellbeing of others above his own, he's wholeheartedly kind-hearted and altruistic. Despite his cold exterior, he'd be the first one to give away his daily portion of rations to a starving passerby.

On the other hand, earning his genuine trust is next to impossible. He tends to approach building close friendships with extreme caution. He even has problems relying on his own comrades during a battle mission, which is one of the reasons why he tends to be so reckless and independent.

‣ Enemies
Titans. Santiago hates these creatures with a burning passion. He's not afraid of them, he just despises them.

When it comes to human enemies, Santiago is frankly uninterested in making them. His grumpy nature probably makes him seem rather unlikable to others, but he wholeheartedly does not care. He sometimes has a scuffle with someone else when he gets a little tipsy in the nearest tavern, but nothing more than that. When he's away from the Titans, Santiago is quite a peaceful fellow.

‣ Lovers
A bit of a hopeless romantic on the inside. Growing up as the eldest of three siblings and being exceptionally close to his younger twin brother, Santiago is a family-oriented person. He once wanted to get married and have children of his, but he gave up on this goal of his when he transferred to the Garrison. Nevertheless, he still tends to daydream about having a family of his own and still has a bit of a soft spot for children.

Given his cautious and silent nature, it might be difficult to merely gain his trust. However, he might loosen and actually fall in love with somebody if given enough compassion and patience.

‣ Ideas
- As a former member of the Survey Corps, he's certainly open to interactions with some of his past comrades. He enlisted in the Garrison in 844, so I imagine that quite a lot of Scouts know him. Maybe some past friendships?
- Meeting some of his new comrades in the Garrison.
- Someone finds him walking around the barracks at night and questions his terrible sleeping schedule.
- Drinking in a tavern! hopefully without a fight

I can offer uhm...a good chunk of the Garrison lol. Always happy to get more flower power into the game.  :) :)

Commander Pixis (http://reluctant-heroes.com/index.php?topic=636.0) - I don't think he and Santiago would have a ton of contact, but I think it is logical Pixis would have had to sign off on the transfer and maybe would have wanted to meet with him at some point. Pixis is pretty friendly to the rank and file when he's out and about and there are a few taverns Pixis likes to frequent (much to Anka and Gustav's chagrin lol).

Rico Brzenska (http://reluctant-heroes.com/index.php?topic=3819.0) - She's an Elite team leader and one of the best soldiers in the Garrison. She is stoic, logical, and does not suffer fools. Rico also has a lot of warmth and compassion if you know her well. She is very loyal to the Garrison, her soldiers, and her friends.

Arkin Holt (http://reluctant-heroes.com/index.php?topic=759.0) - Arkin leads a cannon/artillery team. He's about the gentlest person in the Garrison lol. Arkin runs an apothecary shop out of his quarters and people will come to him if they don't want to deal with the medics. Arkin is a good listener and just a good dude.

Miriam Gracey (http://reluctant-heroes.com/index.php?topic=924.0) - She is a member of Mitabi Jarnach's Elite team and is solid at her job. She's also chatty, friendly, and likes to bring baked goods to her team. Are the baked goods good? No. No, they are not.

Anka Rheinberger (http://reluctant-heroes.com/index.php?topic=559.0) - One of the Commander's aides. She (along with Gustav) handles more of the day to day running of the Garrison. It would be pretty normal to see her around Garrison HQ and going among the ranks to do checks, collect paperwork, and hunt down the occasional poor soul for a missed signature. Anka is friendly and nice if you get to know her and polite if you don't know her.

Hubert Fraser (http://reluctant-heroes.com/index.php?topic=1111.0) - Hugh is part of the SC. He serves as a veterinarian and farrier. He comes across as a surly and unpleasant fellow and he mostly keeps to himself. He's not without compassion and has been known to do acts of kindness for those he truly likes...or even does not like if the situation calls for it.  Hugh respects those who are kind to animals and he almost always gives the meat part of his ration to the cats that live behind the SC stables.

I'd be up for all sorts of plots. Santiago would probably have or have had contact with most of these characters at some point and I'd love to hear any ideas you have.  :)

I love him! And some eyecandy to boot! <3

I can offer:

Tamsin, first and foremost.
Although they likely would have been in different graduating classes, Tamsin is a Scout vet and so they likely would have been comrades for a while. Although she's not really a letter-writer, it's possible they still may have kept in touch enough for a nostalgic return-home drink? Also as a side note, Santiago was probably around when the gate gets breached in 845 and thus when Tamsin loses her last remaining sibling, her younger sister (her younger half-brother was also Garrison before he died). Incidentally they also share similar dreams for a family -- despite not feeling very optimistic about it! -- that can be something to platonically talk about when they go for a drink?

Miranda, to a lesser extent.
This is purely a side-note in that perhaps she taught him at some point, and tends to keep up with 'her kids', especially if they end up in the Garrison.

Thanks a ton for these wonderful plot ideas <3 I have a lot to work with, but I'll try to summarize things for the most part:

Santiago & Commander Pixis:
I can see Santiago meeting Pixis at some point in time, especially during and shortly after his transfer to the Garrison. I imagine that his "military branch swap" could raise some eyebrows, as Santiago had a rather promising career in the Survey Corps, so maybe Pixis would like to ask some questions regarding that? I'm certainly up for a thread where Santiago has to visit Pixis to sort things out about his transfer (thus the thread would take place sometime in 844). Or maybe Pixis would check on Santiago to see how he's adjusting to the new regiment (late 844 or shortly before the fall of Wall Maria in 845)?

Santiago & Rico:
Why do I think that she would not like him at first? Santiago is not a really a slacker, he tends to work at his own pace in his own ways, but sometimes he has very little motivation to do anything. Maybe Rico would not get along with him at first, but eventually discover that he's not a bad person?

Santiago & Arkin:
I don't have any concrete thread ideas for them, but they can certainly interact together. Maybe Arkin would explain how to use some wall-mounted artillery (because I imagine that Santiago had to learn how to do that)?

Santiago & Miriam:
Okay, this guy loves baked goods. I think it would be quite funny to see Miriam try to offer some to him, then he would be really awkward (yet grateful!) about the unexpected gift.

Santiago & Anka:
As Anka is one of the Commander's... em... helpers (I don't want to use the term 'right hands', that sounds weird), I think she could also be the one to check on Santiago to see how he's adjusting to the Garrison, if you would prefer to use her instead of the Commander in this scenario.

Santiago & Hubert:
They probably know each other from the Survey Corps. Mhm, maybe former friends?

I think there's a lot to work with here, and I frankly have no clue with which idea I should go, since I really like all of them! I'd absolutely love to thread with one of your characters, but I have no idea who should go first. Mhm, perhaps Rico scolding Santiago for not doing things the Garrison Way or Miriam sharing some baked goods with him, that seems like a good start? Nevertheless, I don't mind! I'm open to anything, really c:

Aii, I'm really glad you like him! <3

Santiago & Tamsin:
They likely know each other from the Survey Corps! I really like the idea where they meet in a tavern and discuss the situation in their respective regiments. You know, something along the lines of old friends going out for a drink together to talk about various stuff. They have a lot in common, so I can see these two becoming close friends!

Santiago & Miranda:
Truthfully, I don't have any thread ideas for these two. I'm not sure whether the timing lines up, but perhaps she used to teach the Wallace twins (Santiago & Arlo), and maybe she would try to contact him after finding out about his transfer and Arlo's death? Dunno, this seems more of like a 'by the way' plot, so Tamsin is a clear winner for me in this round c:

As a quick footnote, I originally wanted to merge this with my reply to Quiet's plot ideas, but this seems like a cleaner alternative.

I sometimes forget how many Garrison characters I have until I see them all listed out lol. Then I am just like...wow.

Pixis & Santiago - I think it makes sense that Pixis would want to debrief Santiago in some way. There is probably some stuff to sign and Pixis would just want to know why he's leaving the SC and coming to Garrison. Not in a bad way - just curious. Considering how solid a soldier Santiago was in the SC, Pixis would want to see all that for himself. He desperately wants good troops for the Garrison and Santiago would be a welcome addition. They could also see each other at a tavern now and then lol.

Rico & Santiago - Rico would probably find his lack of perceived effort (the Elites are hard workers and have to function as well oiled machines and Rico would have no use for someone who does not seem to respect that) bothersome and would not be afraid to address that. If she sees he's actually a good guy - she'll soften up a little.

Arkin and Santiago - That makes sense about explaining some artillery. It's not something that is used a ton in the SC so I imagine so Santiago might need a refresher. Arkin would not mind at all.

Miri and Santiago - LOL poor guy. Takes a bite of whatever Miri brings and then has to choke down its nastiness because he wants to be nice. And holy heck can this gal talk.

Anka and Santiago - Escorts, aides, assistants, babysitters, booze nannies lol...I've heard Anka and Gustav called all sorts of things in relation to Pixis. I think it makes more sense for Anka to check up on him. Maybe she is the one who gives him his quarters assignment, keys, the tour of the Garrison barracks. All that good stuff.

Hugh and Santiago - Santiago would have to be a saint (or at least a determined and patient) person to get to be an actual friend of Hugh. He's such a grumpy standoffish person. But Santiago seems like the type who would take proper care of his horse so that would make him basically okay in Hugh's book. They would have served together for a fairly long time so it makes sense they would have gotten to know each other over the years.

I'm always so happy when the Garrison gets another member. One..it means less talking to myself in threads and two...it's a group that deserves more attention and respect. I think Santiago is going to be a great addition.  :) :)

Both those threads sound like good ideas. Or if you want to start with Santiago's "first day at work" we could begin with meeting with Pixis who then might hand him over to Anka. It's all up to you.  :) :)

Yep, I totally agree and expected that Miranda probably wouldn't be that good of a fit this go round, but thought I'd add her as context in case it was ever useful. Anyhow! Onto our more promising pair:

Tamsin and Santiago
Going out for a drink to reminisce seems like a good approach, then! Perhaps after one of the expeditions gets back? If ever and whenever you're up for a thread, I'm game! <3
