Learn how to play with others. [Alise]

Gunther was well-known for being a team player. Though he was hardly the best cadet, currently quite comfortably in the middle with his marks, he knew the importance of helping others and following orders. If anything, it marked him out from some of his fellow cadets on just how content and aware he was with others. The mountain boy reputation hadn't shed, but it had been replaced somewhat with the strong, capable reputation of someone who could be depended upon.

Perhaps that was why the hand-to-hand instructor had picked on him for a 'special mission'. She smiled as she said it, and he understood in an instant that it was something of a favour. It meant she found him dependable as well, and of course he accepted the task.

The dark-haired cadet of the 94th Cadet Corps - Eastern Division, Wall Rose, he recited - stood outside the barracks of the year below, knocking firmly. "Cadet Alise Waldenburg to report to the training grounds," he called through, taking a step back. He wanted to be sure that she was indeed inside, and he didn't mind waiting a moment. If not, he could send one of her bunkmates after her, after all.

The young girl that evening had no particular plan for the day, just like usual.

Her bunkmates would leave somewhere -she didn't pay much attention to their conversations-, only her remaining in the small wooden box titled their room.

As such, she was just thinking about going somewhere, maybe the woods nearby? She could get some practice in too.

Yes, that sounded wonderful.

And just as the distant 14 year old decided that, a small, yet firm knock interrupted her train of thoughts, along with a male's voice.

Curious, -she wasn't expecting anyone, and if her memories served her well, she didn't cause trouble this time- she opened the door to find a boy -a year or two above her probably, from the looks of it- looking down at her a bit surprised. It was understandable, she was usually out of her room, making her a bit hard to find -her instructor had her fair share of problem with that-.

Alise met the taller boy's gaze with her own one, as if to ask 'Well? Lead the way.'

By the look the younger cadet gave him, he wondered how easy this was going to be. She didn't appear to be against it, at any rate, which meant that she wasn't insubordinate. That was a relief. He didn't think any instructor would have tasked him with teamwork-building exercises if the cadet in question was too... wayward.

He hoped.

Leading the way to the training grounds, he brought Alise to a spot where a number of wooden structures had been set up. He'd had a think about how to go about it when the instructor had told him to focus on combat and teamwork. The task had been outlined as helping a cadet learn how to work with others. The obstacle course wasn't quite right for that, and he knew how much most cadets tired of it after a number of physical lessons manoeuvring obstacles. But he didn't want to go toe-to-toe with a cadet who had a year's less experience and lessons either.

"Instructor Fischer wanted me to go through some combat techniques with you," he informed her. He'd gotten permission to focus on combat, anyway. Gunther cast a glance around the wooden structures. A number of them were wooden dummies with sticks poking out of them, but others were for climbing. "How's your balance and reflexes?"

On the way there, Alise was silently wondering why she was being led to what seemed to be the training grounds -she knew the path there by her heart, she frequented it a lot after all-.

She doesn't remember making trouble this time, nor beating up anybody too much while training. So why was someone with a year or more experience leading her there? Was it a mission he got from their instructor?

She didn't know, and she left it at that. She would get her answers soon.

As they arrived, the older boy turned towards him with a slightly puzzled expression on his face, a question about her skills leaving his lips.

At that, she looked at him straight in the eyes and answered him while slowly blinking -the sun was quite bright today, it bothered her, even if only a bit-.

"I was told I am quite good, if all the scolding by the instructor is something to go by."

Gunther raised his eyebrows at her. "I'm not sure how scolding translates to being good at something," he remarked, nudging one of the dummy arms with his hand. It span the top part of its body around, momentum catching the three other sections of the dummy to slightly turn. He stopped it.

"Show me how good you are then. Stand in the middle here." He didn't think cadets of her year had been tasked with standing in the centre yet. There was a spot you could stand in where, with someone on the outside, you could be hit by every single dummy while dodging, provided you didn't pay attention to what was going around you.

He figured that was as best as any way to start off.

Alise didn't respond back to the older male, only looked at him with her neutral expression, no sign of what her thought process was. Although if someone paid close attention, they could hear a small hum from her direction, as if a suspicion of hers was proved.

Indeed, she was now sure that Gunther has never heard of her before, since she had a bad habit of getting into fights -unintentionally, it was always the other people's fault- because of her better fighting skills.

Walking towards the spot that she was being instructed to, she exhaled, calming her senses.

The centre was the toughest spot, after all.

One needed to pay attention when being in there.

Closing her eyes for a few seconds, she imagined where the dummies and their arms were, as if making a map of it in her own mind.

As soon as the dummies moved, her eyes popped open and her body took action on its own, dodging arm after arm, her moves and actions smooth like a flowing water, her body flexible like a cat's.

She could do this.

She would not fail.

She wasn't weak.

Alise didn't falter even when she took in a few hits, no, she resumed dodging the other arms to the best of her abilities, not letting it ruin her momentum.

At last, after what seemed like long hours -in reality, a few minutes-, the arms stopped and the indifferent faced girl looked at the male with her imposing green eyes, a few puffs of air escaping her mouth, the sudden intense 'training' having tired her out more than usual. She didn't seem to care about the few darkening spots on her skin caused by the training dummies, only caring about righting her now wrinkled uniform.
